Awakening

On November 21, I took part in the Jerusalem Biennale, presenting an installation at the Schatz House—the birthplace of Israeli art. My work paid homage to Boris Schatz’s children, themselves artists and designers, whose contributions have largely been forgotten in the collective memory. I painted their portraits on layered sheets of newspaper, creating fragile yet enduring presences within the space.

The floor of the room was entirely covered with delicate ceramic tiles that I crafted for the exhibition, each one bearing the image of the Menorah as it appeared in the works of Benny Schatz. As visitors step inside, the fragile tiles inevitably crack beneath their feet, shattering the silence of the room and transforming the act of viewing into an active, almost ritualistic disruption.
