The Heart and the Fountain

An old Hassidic story tells of a pond yearning for water from the spring, and the spring longing to reach the pond. They cannot move closer, for if they do, they would merge and cease to exist.

In the Pink Pond project, I used a public garden with a pond that had been dried to conserve water. The pond is covered in pink Lycra fabric, forming a heart-shaped “pink pond,” while a nearby basin is covered in silver and filled with water, representing the spring.

The installation reflects the human desire for connection and closeness, alongside the fear that in merging with others, we may lose our individuality.

סיפור חסידי עתיק מספר על אגם השואף למים ממעיין, והמעיין השואף להגיע אל האגם. הם אינם יכולים להתקרב זה אל זה, שכן אם יעשו זאת, יתמזגו ויאבדו את עצמם.

בפרויקט האגם הוורוד, השתמשתי בגן ציבורי שבו האגם יובש כדי לחסוך במים. האגם מכוסה בבד לייקרה ורוד, שיוצר "אגם ורוד" בצורת לב, בעוד שמיכל סמוך מכוסה בכסף ומלא במים - המייצג את המעיין.

ההתקנה משקפת את הרצון האנושי להתחבר ולהתקרב, לצד הפחד שמא במיזוג עם אחרים נאבד את האינדיבידואליות שלנו.
